Testimony to the high cost of Newark residency are the hundreds of sheriff's real estate sales and also the multitude of "for sale" signs up and down every street. Folks are losing their homes because their incomes don't cover expenses. It's that simple.
The cause is not entirely accelerated loans coming due, as we've been told. It's Newark's water/sewer/storm water rates; it's Licking County's high sales tax; it's Newark Schools and Newark City income tax. It's the new pay-to-ride to the hospital fee. It's the exorbitant property taxes.
These, in combination with the surge in health care costs, insurance rates, gasoline and don't forget Georgie's War which we are yet to pay for.
Now, along comes Newark Schools - yet again - with yet another levy increase on the upcoming ballot.
Review, if you will, the article I wrote 8/3/07.
Now ask me if I'm going to vote for more school taxes.
