In the local news this morning is a report that Zack Space, our Congressional representative, has decided to pay for his own vacation to Greece. The Advocate carries an article today at this link which quotes Zack as saying such an act will "exceed the public's expectations." It doesn't.
As I pointed out here Monday, that he even planned to go to Greece courtesy of my pocketbook is a "surprise and a disappointment" since we have telephones, e-mail and/or video-conferencing tools with which he could get all the "facts" he needs about Greece and Greece from him.
Give Zack credit for listening to the folks back home. He sensed he was about to make a serious error, he stopped short, and he corrected his course. So cheers for Zack.
I presume this episode taught Zack more about what is expected of him from constituents. We expect him not to just talk the talk and to vote for ethics in government, but also to conduct himself as though he means it.
I think he will. I think he was honest when he made all those campaign promises and I think his honesty just got a booster shot.
