Hooray for Sheriff Thorp

Worthy of note is the move by Sheriff Thorp to put the brakes on one of the unions representing local government employees.

The sheriff's office "is suing a union that represents the majority of its employees to void an arbitration award ..." claiming the "arbitrator overstepped his bounds," as reported in today's Advocate.

It has to do with quality and cost of employee health insurance, and the sheriff gets gold stars for standing his ground.

This is the first incidence of any local public official saying no to any local public-employee union that I remember reading about for many years. Maybe similar incidents have gone unreported, but Thorp's show of regard for public money is a welcome twist in government news.
