A spokesman from the office of U. S. Representative Zack Space told me today that more federal funds are heading to Newark City Schools.
I had previously reported, most recently in an essay headlined “Newark Schools’ need for levy is unproven,” that federal stimulus grants for Title I and for special education students, added to the projected increase in state funding are estimated at an additional 9.3% for NCS during the next two years. That funding breakdown is further explained in the comments section.
More is on the way under an act called State Fiscal Stabilization Fund. The amount NCS will profit by this won’t be known until July 1st. This money will come with fewer restrictions than previously announced grants and can be used for a variety of purposes, according to the spokesman.
