Thank you Zack Space for goosing Congress on criminal aliens

The incredible travesty against Americans on illegal immigration, wrought by President Bush and his mega-billion buddies, is being met head-on by at least one congressman. That is our own Zack Space (D-18).

Yesterday (3/15/08) Zack sent out the word to his peers that it's time to get off the pot and bring an end to this crisis.

I have for many months been writing about the screwing Bush and the rest of Washington is giving America by letting the invasion by criminal aliens continue. To review:

Zack sent out a news release yesterday that explains the legislation that has been road blocked by a do-less, careless, and unresponsive (except to mega-billionaires) U.S. Congress. Here's what he said:

WASHINGTON, DC – Tired of waiting on the House leadership to address America’s illegal immigration crisis, Congressman Zack Space (OH-18) today called upon them to advance a bill that would help combat the nation’s illegal immigration crisis. Space today joined a number of his colleagues in a letter demanding that Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer bring up pending legislation quickly that strengthens border security, increases interior enforcement, and cracks down on employers who hire illegal immigrants.

This legislation, the bipartisan Secure America Through Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act of 2007 (H.R. 4088), has been stalled since last year.

In the letter, Space and his colleagues pointed out that, “Illegal immigration and border security are high priorities for many Members and our constituents, and we fear that these issues have not been given the proper and necessary consideration in the House of Representatives.”

“My constituents are crying out for action on the illegal immigration issue,” Space said. “There is no doubt that the illegal immigration problem is placing an undue strain on our public resources and our job market.”

“When I traveled to the Mexican border last year, I saw firsthand how easy it is for people to sneak across, and that is completely unacceptable. We need swift and dramatic action to protect both our national security and our job security. I find it difficult to understand the delay,” Space continued.

Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He is working to restore integrity to the office, expand Ohio's economy, and support renewable energy.

How big media hid as Bush invaded

That the media hid from their duty as "Fourth Estate" regarding Bush's wars is a continuing subject for Greg Mitchell, editor of Editor & Publisher Magazine.

Today he writes about Bush's press conference five years ago (3/6/03) which was a few days before he invaded Iraq. In an essay entitled 5 years Ago: That Fateful Press Conference, Mr. Mitchell lists "questions we wish they'd asked."

Here's his observation about the tone and behavior of that conference: "Bush smiled and made his usual quips, and many of the reporters played the game and did not press him hard. This was how these press gatherings had gone throughout the run-up to war. But this meeting was heavily scripted with Bush looking at a slip of paper and calling on reporters in a pre-arranged order. No one challenged him on this."

He lists 11 "questions we wish they'd asked," questions that if asked and pursued on editorial pages would have throttled this arrogant president and turned him back, in my opinion.

The ugly American demeanor

Count me as among those who know nothing about the thoughts and philosophy of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Count me among those who have no opinion regarding his wisdom or statesmanship. Count me among those who would never go to his country, not ever. And count me among those who don't give a damn about his welfare in the least.

Count me among those who saw him open a national sore for the world to see when he visited Columbia University.

Columbia's president introduced this man - the president of a powerful country - by calling him names and insulting him. Excuse this educator, we say, he was covering his butt to an angry audience for giving an enemy of Washington and Israel a podium.

I don't think it was Ahmadinejad's intent and I don't think he could have engineered it had he tried, but in his role as sitting duck for Columbia University's president, and in his role of goon for media of New York City and the nation, he laid bare to the world the ugly, uncivil side of America.

Isn't our world image bad enough, and how did we get like this?

Ahmadinejad: Listen to the other side, for a change

Neither Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad nor his ideas nor his voice are to be feared. I am interested in what he has to say.

That our government and our government-herded media are afraid we'll hear arguments against what's being fed to us from Washington seems evident by the attempt to shout him down before he's opened his mouth.

Shut up and let the man speak.

Congress is morally adjourned

July 30, 2007 - from Associated Press:

"BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraq's parliament adjourned Monday for an August recess without receiving from the government a series of U.S.-backed draft laws designed to promote national unity and stem support for the Sunni-led insurgency."

Also in that same report:


"The U.S. military said three soldiers had been killed in fighting in Anbar province west of Baghdad on Thursday. At least 3,651 members of the U.S. military have died since the start of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count."


The United States has a Congress that's letting this happen because our representatives have been morally adjourned for years.

Why does Canada import wheat from China?

Wheat from China is believed to be the source of the rodent-killing chemical found in pet food that has killed several animals in the U.S. and Canada.

Why do U.S. retailers buy pet foot from Canada and why does Canada, a major wheat producing nation, import wheat from China? Answer that and you'll know why you pay so much for inferior products.

I bet it's the same reason Ohio imports petroleum products from the Middle East when it still has 51 million barrels of proven crude oil reserves with precious few pumps a-pumping. Meanwhile Ohioans pay obscenely high gasoline prices.

I bet it all has to do with profit incentives, trade agreements, tax considerations and world politics. Which is to say it has to do with governments' manipulation of markets at the expense of consumers and tax payers.
