News Release: Pricer for Municipal Clerk of Court
This is a news release from yesterday (4/27/07) by Doug Pricer, candidate for Licking County Municipal Clerk of Court. It makes so much sense that I offer it here without comment; I cannot improve it. You can link to Doug's web site by clicking here.
A proposal to make salary increases automatic for Ohio judges was unveiled to the Public yesterday. Pricer comments on the legislation. "It's like Yogi Berra said: ‘It's deja vou all over again!' Here I am trying to put some sanity into our local Municipal Court Clerk's salary which currently stands at $94,800 thanks to the Legislature tying it to 85% of the Judges salary.
Now the Ohio Supreme Court wants to raise all state judges salaries, and make future raises automatic by linking them to Federal Court salaries.
They can't figure out how to fund our schools, but they can come up with bullet proof systems to give elected officials raises."
According to published reports, if the Supreme Court's recommendation becomes law, the Licking County Municipal Clerk of Courts salary will increase to over $113,000. This is almost twice what our County Commissioners are paid, and nearly 3 times the average Licking County Worker's wage.
Pricer responded, "This is beyond outrage. For a position that requires on 4 days per year in the office, it's nothing short of madness."
Pricer goes on to say: "This is why we must start now, today, to work on correcting this out-of-hand situation. If elected, I will accept $1,000 per month and return the rest of the $94,800 to the Public, and I'll start working on the State Legislature to correct the ill thought out law that created this mess.
"But we'd better hurry, they're gaining on us. With your vote, we can begin to win this battle."
Pricer is a candidate for the Licking County Municipal Clerk of Court. The Primary is May 8th.
