WCLT did a fine report about the city sex offender law, which has become known as "Susan's Law," after the late Susan Verkest, a chief proponent. Here's the link.
This report tells about what the law means to sex offenders in this city, how it's enforced, and the overall success of it. A really good job by reporter Eric Brown.

Hello I work as a reference librarian at library and we had a patron come in and refer to Susan's Law, she was interested in obtaining a copy of Susan's law either in print or online--where can we obtain one? Thank you

Thank you for writing, Dierdre ... I suggest you direct that question to Douglas Sassen, Newark City Director of Law. His e-mail address is:

Susan -pate- Verkest was my grandmother, but I can't say in her life I wasn't proud of her. I'd be lying. I miss her much, but with susan's law she'll be remembered. Although I find it strange they waited until she died to make it "offical" if you could say.But none-the-less, I'm glad they did.

Thanks for writing, Melinda.
ReplyDeleteYou have much to be proud of in your Grandmother, Susan. She did much good, and now the memories of her are doing good. Isn't that nice?
Again, your note is appreciated.
