I came to believe shortly after Bin Laden "got away" and skipped over the border into Pakistan or wherever he went, that he didn't get away at all, but was given an open gate by Bush's war machine.
Why would he do that? Because the Bush Government was in Iraq supposedly to bring justice to those who attacked the World Trade Center and Bin Laden was said to be their chief. That's the line we were fed. So the longer Bin Laden lives the longer the Bush war machine could pretend to be chasing him.
We fought on, taking over Iraq government and oil wells inch by inch - and all in the name of pursuing Bin Laden. The Bush Government had the perfect excuse to keep pounding away.
Lost, he was. That's what Bush Government said. Couldn't find that slippery guy in those mountains. From then until now the only time we gave focus to Bin Laden was when he gave us a new video lecture.
Bush Government stopped talking about it, but now the election looms and voters will have the chance to repay the Bush Government for this war.
So what would be the one thing that Bush Government might try to do to redeem itself about this Iraq gig? Bring Bin Laden home in a bag, then crow about it.
And guess what the headline was today in London Sunday Times? "Get Osama Bin Laden before I leave office, orders George W Bush" Read it here.

OK...I don't know anything about the search for Bin Laden. And I know this current administration has been proven both dishonest and incompetent.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there are some seriously competent people involved in protecting us from terrorists and searching for Bin Laden. I have deep appreciation and respect for those people and the work they do that we will never know about.
So, just suppose, that you find Bin Laden. That you know where he is and can keep him under observation, monitor his communication, know who visits him and where they come from and where they go after they see him. Do you think it would help or hurt the war on terror to go ahead and kill Bin Laden, or would it be better to let him be and continue to exploit all the information you were getting from watching him.
Like I say, I know nothing...I have no idea if that's what has actually happened...but it is a thought.
Let's assume the Bush Government has been using Bin as a tool (and I think that to be likely, though like you, I have no facts).
ReplyDeleteWe must then also assume that the "war on terror" has been won (as in "Mission Accomplished") because - after all these years - Bush at last wants to bring him home in a bag.
As for me, I don't believe the "war on terror" has been won, leaving a significant gap in your chain of logic.
And I don't argue with "the seriously competent people" thing either. But the fact is that "seriously competent people" can't do squat without a President's support. Just ask the guys who gave it all in Vietnam.
