NCS has one employee for every 4.9 students

The second-largest employer in Newark in 2007 was Newark City Schools with 1,367 employees, according to the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, City of Newark Auditor’s Report 12/31/07, Page S31

Newark City Schools that year served 6,716 students, according to the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, Newark City Schools 6/30/08, Page 167.

That is 4.9 students per NCS employee.

NCS is asking for you to raise your property taxes during Tuesday’s election so that you might donate more of your money to such an awesome make-work machine.

You might also find interesting a comparison of the NCS superintendent’s pay with that of the Alaska governor and others. Here’s the link.

Here’s a list of essays which describe some ways in which NCS has been failing to listen to its constituents and failing to serve its students and their parents; also some information about the funding of NCS and links to other sources. These should be fresh in your mind before you go the the polls Tuesday:
